Fall is finally here! It seems like school just started and now it  is almost October.  So far classes are going really well and I am just getting ready for my first wave of tests. One of the classes that I am really excited about is an independent study course with my advisor.  An independent study course is basically a course that you and a professor can customize to a topic that you are interested in.  My independent study course is looking at three philosophies (libertarianism, egalitarianism, and communitarianism) and their definition of justice in the context of economic markets. Right now I am reading an anthology of excerpts from different philosophical works including works from Plato, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Thomas More, Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, and many more. It ... Read More »

Courtney Hanson

My name is Courtney Hanson and I am currently a senior at Creighton University, pursuing a BSBA in Marketing and Entrepreneurship Management. This past summer I had an opportunity to intern at the NIKE inc. world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, as a Brand and Consumer marketing intern for the Emerging Markets. The 10-week internship was made available through an alum, Mr. Jayme Martin, the Vice President and General Manager of the Emerging Markets. The internship provided me real-world marketing experiences and a chance for me to utilize all the knowledge Creighton University has taught me.

I would like to share with you all a commercial NIKE football just recently launched for the new gear called Nike Pro Combat. One of the projects I worked on with a group ... Read More »

Sara LynchSchool is in full swing with classes, tests, and extracurricular activities. It is officially Fall which makes me super happy!  The campus is thriving, the leaves are falling, and the squirrels are active- perfect college scene!

I was recently elected president of my residence hall, Swanson. Swanson is our second largest dorm on campus and is home to both freshman and sophomores.  Part of my position is organizing the Homecoming events that Swanson will participate in.

Homecoming is next week and the theme this year is W ... Read More »

Lianna NgHello again! A New Year and here I am again, writing to you about my lovely college life! In case you haven’t been diligently following me on here for the last few years (shame on you!!) here are a few things about me...
Hawaii born and bred, attended Iolani High School and am now a senior in my fourth (FOURTH?!?) year here at Creighton. I am biology major with the hopes of attending Optometry school sometime in the very near future...loving Omaha and always keeping VERY busy. Currently I am involved in many campus organizations, as well as a lot of other off campus activities. I work almost full time off ... Read More »

Well a week of travel is on the board, touring Northwest Iowa and my old stomping grounds for Catholic College Week.  Saw a lot of great students, and I am hopeful that a few of their applications will find their way across my doorstep.

It's already Thursday and I feel like I am just catching up from all of the road chaos, but it's a happy chaos because I feel like I am back out there with my finger on the pulse.  One thing is consistent - many seniors still haven't sent in their application yet!  Just goes to show that some things never change!  Everybody has been enjoying their first month of school, for many homecoming is right around the corner and it's so easy to get caught up in those senior moments - but don't forget about life ... Well, I think we have successfully made it through most if not all of the First 1st's of the new Fall Semester.  I co-lead a senior nursing course and we have just had our first exam, our first clinical experiences, our first term paper assignment completed...whew, I am a bit tired!  BUT, I think most of the students and faculty are pretty well settled into our new routines and getting a good start to the semester.  My sons have also had some firsts at their schools, so I guess we are getting new routines all around!

I was thinking about how for me, routines are so important in our lives. They give us structure and focus and help us from getting too far off track. Routines--especially those that start up again at the beginning of the school year--also produce memories of times gone by. For me, every August I think of when I moved into the dorms from home. I still clearly remember that first night in Kiewit Hall as a Freshman--Ah good times!& ... Read More »

To all new and future Creighton bluejays, welcome!

As the title of this entry implies, I am a professional student.  What this means to me right now is a struggle between living the "sweet life" of an undergrad and the career focused life of a pharmacy student.  I've been blessed with amazing friends, experiences and memories from my time as an undergrad.  Now that I am in professional school, I am "blessed" with 4 more years of school.  Despite the tough schedule and harder classes, I still try to make time for those activities and people that I love.

Being from Hawaii, I usually spend my summers at home.  (I'm sure it's not hard to see why...especially for you students from Minnesota...)  However, this was the first summer I spent partially in Omaha.  I returned to the Heartland at the beginning of July and helped to lead the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conferen ... Tyler GassawayWelcome to my blog.  This is kind of a new extension of social networking for me.  I've done the whole MySpace thing in junior high, transitioned to Facebook around the time of leaving high school and just recently joined the new Twitter revolution!  (You can follow me by the way @tylergassaway!)

Anyways--things are finally starting to settle down here on campus.  Move-in has happened, welcome week and new student orientation has come and gone, first class jitters are shaken out, all my textbooks have arrived from Amazon.com (don't tell the bookstore) and we are just coming back from our first 3 day weekend!

With the start of a ... Read More »

Kelley WanzeckTo the freshman, welcome to Creighton University!

To all others, welcome back from what I hope was an amazing summer!

It's good to be back on campus and interacting with friends and professors again.

As a biochemistry major at Creighton University, I have gotten involved with undergraduate reseach in the chemistry department. I work with Dr. Julie Soukup on a project titled Structure and Functuion of a Potential Mammalian Riboswitch.

I have gotten the opportunity the past two summers to work in a research lab on Creighton's campus as a participant in a program called INBRE (Idea Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence). The program funds states ... Read More »
