I’d have to say this year is flying by…With 60 degree weather and a snow day in the same week, this Midwest climate has definitely kept us guessing lately! Even though it’s been pretty cold, the sun has been shining enough to keep me in great spirits. Just like the weather, this semester has been ever changing for me already. From extracurricular activities to my major, it seems that I alter my plans daily. I’ve been exploring lots of different service opportunities offered here on campus, through the Freshman Leadership Program, the Creighton Center for Service and Justice, and some other unexpected avenues. From visiting with the elderly at a nursing home to playing with toddlers at a daycare, I’ve gotten a glimpse of life outside of Creighton in the surrounding Omaha area. It has been fascinating to observe so many different people in so many different walks and stages of life. (Maybe it’s just my Sociology class rubbing off on me, which is actually one of my favorites this semester.) I love listening to the life stories of so many unique people, but even just sharing a meal or playing a silly game is something that I’ve enjoyed these past few weeks. The busier I become, the more I want to make sure I still have time for these activities in my life. But with so many chances to participate, I know service will be part of my weekly activities for good.
