I am a second year pharmacy student from Honolulu, Hawaii. I did my first two years of undergrad at Creighton, then applied to the pharmacy school during my Sophomore year. It is my hope that, through my blog, new and future Creighton students will get a taste of what life is like at Creighton and, specifically, in professional school. Creighton is my home and family, and I hope it is or will be for you as well. Keep checking back for more updates on my crazy and adventurous life!

Welcome to the Life of a Professional Student!

To all new and future Creighton bluejays, welcome!

As the title of this entry implies, I am a professional student. What this means to me right now is a struggle between living the "sweet life" of an undergrad and the career focused life of a pharmacy student. I've been blessed with amazing friends, experiences and memories from my time as an undergrad. Now that I am in professional school, I am "blessed" with 4 more years of school. Despite the tough schedule and harder classes, I still try to make time for those activities and people that I love.

Being from Hawaii, I usually spend my summers at home. (I'm sure it's not hard to see why...especially for you students from Minnesota...) However, this was the first summer I spent partially in Omaha. I returned to the Heartland at the beginning of July and helped to lead the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference that was hosted by Creighton. This was an amazing opportunity for students from other Jesuit universities to experience Omaha and develop their leadership skills. After the conference, I had the opportunity to be a Summer Preview guide ("SP, SP, SP, 09!"). It was great getting to know the incoming freshmen and their families (quick shout out to all the members of the purple group!).

Of course, all good, fun and relaxing summers must come to an end. Mine, however, ended sooner, as I was once again "blessed" with starting school a week earlier than everyone else. Don't get me wrong, I love my classes, but starting each year is always a bit of a struggle. I quickly got back into the swing of things and enjoyed hearing about everyone's summer.

This past weekend was the Labor Day holiday, and I went on the Campus Ministry sponsored "Fall Adventure Retreat" in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After a stimulating 11 hour drive (somehow we didn't manage to make it in 8), we arrived to camp, bike 30 miles, hike to the highest point west of the Rockies, and enjoy God's amazing beauty!

It's experiences like retreats or new student orientation that keep me connected to undergrad life at Creighton and keep me from going crazy with all the studying. As I write this blog, I'm reminded of how much I need a study break for my big Pharmacology exam on Monday! My life is hectic and busy at times (I often wonder how it's possible to do so much in 24 hours), but it's the little things in life and the time spent with friends and loved ones that keep me going.

In the pivotal words of Miley Cyrus, "It aint about how fast I get there, it aint about what's waiting on the other side, it's the climb!"

Thanks for reading and God bless!
