Bridget Keegan, Ph.D.
English Professor, Director of Scholarships and Fellowships

Our students have won eight Goldwater Scholarships, five Fullbright Awards, and had one Rhodes Scholarship finalist . . .
Freshmen are great to work with—they are focused and very goal-oriented. But sometimes they get too focused on their goals. Creighton has so many different opportunities to explore—whether it’s in exercise science, psychology, creative writing, or music—I encourage all freshmen to try something they haven’t really thought about pursuing or something they might want to develop in themselves. Even if their talent is math or science, taking an art course or a creative writing course is part of developing the Jesuit value of Cura Personalis, or care for the whole person.
I also enjoy working with students who apply for prestigious scholarships. A team of colleagues and I began a resource for students called Scholarship Opportunities and Resources, SOAR, to help Creighton students with the application process. Our students have won eight Goldwater Scholarships, five Fullbright Awards, and had one Rhodes Scholarship finalist, along with various other honors in the past few years. Even if students do not receive a scholarship, I believe simply applying allows them to show their academic prowess to the world. Working with students to develop their skills and more importantly, their confidence, is what I love about my position at Creighton.
