Pharmacy student (2012) from Honolulu, Hawaii

Once I become a professional, I will go back to communities like those in the Dominican Republic on medical missions.
From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt like I was a part of a community that is really special. I was happy to see that the Aloha Spirit was alive and well in Omaha.
That was especially true when I went on a service learning trip to the Dominican Republic, through Creighton’s ILAC (Institute for Latin American Concern) program for five weeks last summer. It was a profound, life changing experience. I went with nursing, pharmacy, dental, and medical students and helped run health clinics in rural villages and towns throughout the DR. The trip made everything click for me: I realized this is the reason why I was going to be a pharmacist. Once I become a professional, I will go back to communities like those in the Dominican Republic on medical missions.
I think it’s a really great testament to the kind of people we have at Creighton . . . the kind of people who want to change the world.
