Not only did I find the camaraderie I was looking for, but I also found a place that is warm and welcomimg beyond what I expected.
Creighton blue runs through my family’s veins, so I knew I would be coming here. But I’m from Hong Kong, so I wasn’t sure what to expect at Creighton or in Omaha. I was looking for that same closeness and opportunity for involvement I had in high school. Not only did I find the camaraderie I was looking for, but I also found a place that is warm and welcomimg beyond what I expected. The opportunities for service and leadership are everywhere and have given me a glimpse at what I want to be involved in as I continue my education in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution at Creighton’s Werner Institute.
Creighton has an amazing Greek system and as the philanthropy chair for my sorority, I helped organize a big event called Turtle Tug, a game of tug-of-war over a pool of green jello. We raised more than $5,000 to help the students at Gallaudet University, a college for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
I feel like I have found this jewel in Omaha. I really think it is one of the greatest cities in the United States—it is diverse and cultured (only in Omaha can you see Wicked, The Fray, and a rodeo!), but it still has Midwestern values. Although I am nearly 4,500 miles from home, being in Omaha, and more specifically at Creighton, feels like home is just around the corner.
