I always tell my students to find their passion and turn that passion into a career. If they can do that, they won’t ever “work.”
I get great satisfaction when I can get students to understand that a college education isn’t just about job training, it’s about learning how to make good decisions in life. I stress to them that businesses are not going to hire them because they learned how to take a square root or they can do a regression analysis. They will be hired and become successful based upon how they make decisions and how they become good stewards of their resources.
The Jesuit mission of service to others is very important to Creighton students and one of my biggest challenges is explaining to students that it’s okay to want to be successful. What I like to point out to them is that in order to be a philanthropist, they will need to be successful first. I always tell my students to find their passion and turn that passion into a career. If they can do that, they won’t ever “work.” Finding that passion, and gaining the ability to make it a way of life, is what a Creighton Business education is all about.
