Creighton Students Given Gold Award

National Society of Collegiate ScholarsCreighton University’s chapter of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) chapter has achieved the gold award.

The Creighton University chapter was awarded gold status at the NSCS Honor Gala in Washington, D.C. on August 15.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an honors organization for high-achieving freshmen and sophomores with more than 240 student-run chapters at universities across the country. The Creighton University NSCS chapter was founded in 2000.

For Thomas Locke, the NSCS national staff representative who works with Creighton University’s chapter officers, the award comes as no surprise.

“The members of Creighton University’s chapter are amazing,” said Locke. “They have gone above and beyond by creating innovative programs and expanding and improving existing programs and have provided an exceptional experience for their members. They have truly embraced the ideals of NSCS.”

The chapter’s officers represented the chapter at Convention 2009 and accepted the award on behalf of the officers and members. The chapter will also receive a $250 Chapter Scholarship and letter to the President of Creighton University to commemorate attaining gold status.

For the NSCS chapter on Creighton University’s campus, the reward of attaining gold status is second only to the impact it has had on the community and the bonds it has strengthened between members.
To attain gold status, chapters are required to hold an induction ceremony for new members, create a student mentoring program, hold campus–wide events to support NSCS’ integrity initiative, create an on-campus membership recruitment campaign and engage a campus office in a chapter event.
