This past Wednesday I finally had a little bit of a break from my studying and my sister asked me to go with her to the Mason Apartments. The CCSJ (Creighton Center for Service and Justice) sponsors a different service site every day that is open to all Creighton students, they can vary from helping at a homeless shelter to tutoring kids after school. The Mason Apartments is an opportunity to tutor and play with kids after school for two hours every Wednesday and now has been expanded to include Monday as well due to the large turn out of Creighton students at the site.
I had always wanted to volunteer at one of these sites, but had always been distracted by studying. My sister (she is a freshman) managed to finally give me that little needed push and I was so glad she did. At the apartments we tutor kids after school through the apartments after school homework club and then play with them for an hour. The kids had so much energy and were so happy. Tutoring ranged from helping kids with their reading skills to basic math to helping with reports on skunks. After about an hour of tutoring every one went outside and we had a massive game of piggy back tag (the pictures below should explain). It was my first time volunteering at one of these sites, but it definitely won't be my last!
Here are some pictures of CU students volunteering with the kids:

Re: Mason Apartments
Great to see young people giving of their time and talent. Young people are like airplanes, the only ones we read about are those who crash. God bless and keep up the good work!!
