Financial Aid Information
Financial Aid Process
- Complete the Application for Undergraduate Admissions and Scholarships.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), beginning January 1
- Creighton University's federal school code is 002542.
- To receive priority consideration for need-based assistance, your processed FAFSA should be on file at Creighton's Financial Aid Office by April 1. FAFSA information received after April 1 will be considered as funding allows.
- To fill out the FAFSA, you will need a federal PIN. The U.S. Department of Education will send you your PIN. Memorize the four-digit number, and keep it in a safe place. If a parent needs to sign any aid forms, they will need their own PIN.
- Send in any supporting documents
- Once you are admitted, we will let you know if we need any supporting documents to complete your aid application. Normally, these documents are copies of federal tax returns, W-2’s, Creighton’s verification worksheet or several other forms used to clarify or confirm your FASFA data.
- Most Creighton University forms needed can be downloaded at Commonly Used Forms.
- Respond to your financial aid award
- After Creighton has reviewed your FASFA results, you will mailed an award notification to your home address.
- Respond as soon as possible to this aid offer. Specific directions and instructions on how to login to The NEST to accept your aid offer will be included in your award letter.
- Fill out any additional forms
- Some forms of aid, like the Federal Work Study and loan programs, may require additional paperwork or web-based activity. Be sure to read everything we send or list for you to do to make sure your aid is ready when school starts.
- Any missing information or documents will always be listed on your NEST account.
- Stay eligible for Federal Student Aid, for which the general guidelines require you to
- Be enrolled in a program of study leading to a certificate or degree
- Be enrolled each term on at least a half-time basis (usually 6 hrs)
- Not be in default on any federal loan or owe a repayment on any federal grant
- Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Creighton's minimum requirements for SAP are as follows:
- A student must maintain a QPA of at least 1.75 and pass a minimum of 75% of total cumulative hours at the end of the first academic year.
- A student must maintain a QPA of 2.0 or higher and pass a minimum of 75% of total cumulative hours for all other grade classifications.
General Financial Aid Policies
Refund Policy
The University publishes a calendar each academic year that shows the types and percentages of direct charges which are refundable should a student withdraw during a term.
The federal refund policy will be used for all students receiving federal aid. This is a proportional calculation based upon time enrolled during a semester, type of aid received and direct costs. Students impacted by this policy will receive a worksheet outlining the steps and resulting calculation.
Disbursement of Funds
Award amounts offered are normally based on full-time enrollment for each semester. Enrolling less than full-time will cause a reduction in aid funding. Receiving a Creighton-funded academic scholarship requires full-time enrollment each term.
