Merit Scholarships

Creighton awards scholarships to incoming freshmen based upon a number of factors:

  • Academic achievement
  • Athletic and artistic abilities
  • Community service
  • Leadership
  • Special talents

By completing the general Application for Admission and Scholarship, you will automatically be considered for University Awards, Founders Awards, Magis Awards and the Ignatius of Loyola Service and Leadership Scholarship.

To receive priority consideration for scholarships, your Application for Undergraduate Admission and Scholarship and all required credentials must be received by the Office of Admissions no later than January 7, 2013.

Merit scholarships are renewable based upon academic record and full time-status of students for eight consecutive semesters.

Presidential, Scott and Muchemore Scholarships
Presidential, Scott, and G. Robert Muchemore Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships are our most prestigious scholarships. Typically, incoming freshmen who are very involved in community service, leadership, and school activities complemented by a minimum GPA of a 3.9 on a 4.0 scale (which usually places the student in the Top 5% of their high school) and a recommended 33 ACT (1440 SAT without writing) are eligible to apply. Students selected for these awards represent the Top 3% of our enrolled class.

Qualified applicants must submit an Application for Admission and Scholarship, including all supporting materials, to be received in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by January 7, 2013. The deadline for submission of all scholarship application materials is February 1, 2013.

Presidential Scholarship
These $25,000 renewable scholarships are awarded to selected incoming freshmen who are in the top 10% of our applicant pool, based upon academic record, which indicates curriculum, grades, test scores and leadership abilities. In order to compete, qualified applicants must submit an Application for Admissions and Scholarship and supporting credentials by January 7, 2013.

Scott Scholarship
These full tuition renewable scholarships are available to incoming freshmen enrolling in the College of Business. Students who are in the top 10% of our applicant pool, based on academic record, which indicates curriculum, grades, test scores and leadership abilities, are encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants must submit an Application for Admissions and Scholarship and supporting credentials by January 7, 2013.

G. Robert Muchemore Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship
These $25,000 renewable scholarships are available to graduates of Nebraska high schools entering as freshmen. Selection for this award is highly competitive and is based upon high school academic record, which indicates curriculum and test scores, and financial need. Students who are in the top 10% of our applicant pool, based on this criteria, are encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants must submit an Application for Admissions and Scholarship and supporting credentials by January 7, 2013. Applicants must also file the Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.

Diversity Scholarships
Diversity Scholarships are $25,000 renewable tuition scholarships awarded to incoming freshmen who show a strong and continuous commitment to diversity through extracurricular activities and leadership roles. Applicants must also have a 3.3 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale and will be evaluated on the basis of their academic merit, community service, school activities, leadership, and financial need. Applicants must file the Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.

Renewal requires maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.50 and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.

Supplemental Scholarships

The following awards require submission of a separate Supplemental Scholarships application and supplemental materials. Incoming freshmen wishing to be considered for supplemental scholarships must have their general application for admission and scholarship and supporting credentials submitted by January 7, 2013. The deadline for all supplemental scholarship applications and supporting materials is February 1, 2013, and only completed applications will be considered.

College of Business Ethics and Social Responsibility Scholarship  
Creighton University's College of Business Administration awards $2,500 academic scholarships recognizing students for exceptional service accomplishments and leadership potential. Incoming freshmen who have a 3.6 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale and a minimum ACT test score of 26 or SAT test score of 1200 are invited to apply.

Renewal requires maintaining a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and participating in the College of Business Administration's Dean's Honor Roll for Social Responsibility for eight semesters.

Christina M. Hixson Scholarship in Business  
This perpetually endowed scholarship fund provides $4,500 awards to selected academically motivated incoming freshman business students from high schools in Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin or Wyoming with a minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale who are interested in the study of business. Renewal requires maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.5 and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.
Grace Keenan Scholarship for Excellence in the Arts  
Creighton University offers $4,000 scholarships, given by the Grace Keenan Endowment to the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. The renewable scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen who intend to major or minor in visual or performing arts. Renewal beyond sophomore year requires declaring a major or minor in art, music or theatre or a minor in dance.
William Jennings Bryan Scholarship in Speech  
Creighton University offers $4,000 scholarships renewable for four years to incoming freshmen who excel in speech activities. The scholarships will be based on academic and speech achievements. Renewal requires maintaining a 2.5 cumulative GPA and participating on the Creighton University Forensics Team.
Leo Vincent Jacks Scholarship in Classical Languages  
The Leo Vincent Jacks Scholarship in Classical Languages is a $4,000 renewable scholarship awarded to incoming freshmen who have an interest in the study of the ancient languages and plan to pursue the Classical Languages Major at Creighton University. Renewal requires 1) declaring and continuing a pursuit of the Classical Languages Major, 2) maintaining a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 GPA in courses taken in the major and 3) participating in department life and activities, such as research, Eta Sigma Phi, and recruiting efforts.

Additional Scholarships

Ignatius of Loyola Scholarship
As a nationally recognized Jesuit University, Creighton values the commitment and talent of students involved in leadership and service to others, and will award up to $2,000 annually to select incoming freshmen based on the required activities resume. Finalists for the Ignatius of Loyola Scholarship will be selected for a phone interview after the priority deadline of January 7, 2013.

Diversity Scholarships for Native Americans
Creighton University will award $25,000 renewable Native American Merit Scholarships. In addition to these scholarships, grant monies may be provided to Native American Scholar recipients. Incoming freshmen who have proof of tribal enrollment and have achieved a high school GPA of 3.3 or higher will be considered for these merit scholarships. The Application for Admission serves as the application for the Diversity Scholarship for Native Americans.

Renewal requires maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.75 and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year.

Army & Air Force ROTC Scholarship
Applicants are selected by Army ROTC as four-year and three-year advance designee scholarship winners or as Type I or II scholarship winners by Air Force ROTC. These awards are for tuition and fees, a book allowance, monthly stipend for 10 months a year and a full room supplement. Army ROTC four-year Nursing scholarship winners also receive a full board supplement from the School of Nursing.

Athletic Scholarships
As an NCAA Division I school, Creighton awards scholarships based on athletic ability. Scholarship amounts vary by sport and student athletic ability. For more information, contact the Creighton Athletic Office.

Jesuit High School Recognition Awards
Because we value the rigorous academics set in the Jesuit tradition of excellence in education, any incoming freshman who attends a Jesuit high school will receive a $1,000 Jesuit High School Recognition Award.

National Merit Scholarships
Creighton University is a sponsor of National Merit Scholarship. If you are a National Merit finalists and want to compete for a Creighton-sponsored award, be sure to list Creighton as your first-choice school and also apply for admission. Outside Scholarships

In addition to Creighton's scholarships, applicants should investigate scholarships from local, regional and national organizations. Scholarship information is available through your high school guidance office, public libraries, community groups and scholarship search engines such as Fast Web, College Board and Sallie Mae.

Please notify the Creighton University Financial Aid Office if you receive an outside award. In certain instances, we may have to adjust your aid package. Generally adjustments are made to loans and work-study aid, not grant funds.
